The image at left depicts the position
of a primary vascular bundle within the mesocarp of a berry. Note the
rather thick-walled, closely packed cells of the sub-epidermal layer.

A primary vascular bundle in the parenchyma
cells of the mesocarp is pictured at left. Note how the orientation of
primary xylem to the inside and primary phloem to the outside closely
resembles the primary vasculature of shoots, rachis,
and tendrils.
