The primary tissue systems in the primary stem are derived from the primary meristems. These are the protoderm, procambium, and ground meristem. These primary meristems give rise to the epidermis, primary vascular tissues, and cortex and pith respectively. The image at left shows the arrangement of these tissues in a cross section of a stem during primary growth. |
