Emergence of the root

Adventitious roots are roots that arise from anomalous regions. They usually form on aerial organs, on rhizomes, and on older parts of the root body. They can develop under normal environmental conditions, or in response to pathogens and wounding. Adventitious roots are found among all vascular plants, and in some cases may be essential to normal growth and development. These adventitious roots formed on the older portion of the stem, which was undergoing secondary growth.
