Leaf Venation

The rice plant is grass, and thus it has a parallel venation arrangement common in monocot plants.

Each leaf has many veins (vascular bundles) that are arranged parallel to each other. Connecting between the main veins are the commissural veins, which are perpendicular to the main veins. Commissural veins help main veins distribute water, nutrients, and sugars to the cells far from the main veins. Veins in the leaf blade is continuous from the ones in the leaf sheeth, which are connected to the veins in the stem.
