Dermal
Tissue System
The major structure of this tissue system
is the epidermis. There is an Upper Epidermis and a Lower Epidermis.
Epidermal cells are arranged regularly in rows that are parallel to the
sides of the leaf.
This is an epidermal peel of a rice
leaf. The pink structures are the stomata.
Stomata
The stomata is an opening on the leaf
surface from which CO2 enters the plant, and water leaves the plant. It
is a very important organ in a plant because in the dark reaction of photosynthesis,
a plant fixes CO2 to produce compounds such as glucose and starch for growth.
Bulliform
Cells
Bulliform cells are also called motor
cells .
They are located in between vascular
bundles.
Their function is to control movements
of the blade.
They swell to open up the blade and
shrink to roll it up.
